We LOVE Bromley
29th February, 2016
Two years ago they made the difficult decision to move back to the UK and began to research the UK housing market. With an overwhelming selection of properties available and a competitive property market, they turned to jdm Estate Agents for advice. They had their pick of the capital’s properties so find out why they chose Bromley to be their new home....
How did you go about choosing an area to live?
We had a number of criteria: an (affordable!) house with a courtyard/garden, which was close to family, had good links to central London and where we could walk to shops and restaurants. We spoke to lots of agents in and around London but Bromley ticked all the boxes.
How did you find the right house for you?
Being overseas we spent a lot of time on Rightmove and Zoopla. If we saw something we liked the look of we enlisted the help of very generous parents and friends to take a closer look and send over even more photos and videos.
What was the scariest thing about the moving process?
The time in between agreeing that we would purchase the house and actually exchanging contracts felt like a lifetime. We learnt a lot about the conveyancing process and how long it can take – jdm were very experienced and helped guide us through the process. Understanding how everything works and that can allay some of the worry.
Now you're settled in Bromley what is it that you love about it?
It meets all the requirements we had - we can easily walk to 3 supermarkets, heaps of retail shops, restaurants and pubs, and with 2 train lines it's really easy to reach multiple areas of London quickly and easily.
What are your favourite places to eat and drink?
Havet Turkish restaurant, the Mandarin Palace Chinese restaurant and the Crown and Anchor pub, so far! There are still plenty of places we have yet to try!
And your favourite shops?
We love the market stalls in Bromley high street, some of the more boutiquey shops in Chislehurst and Bluewater with its vast array of shops is really close too if we need more selection.
Do you have any favourite walks?
Petts Wood is only a 5 minute drive away from us and it feels like you are in the middle of the country. We can’t believe we can be tramping around fields but only 20 minutes by train from London.
What thing have you found out about Bromley that you didn't know before you lived there?
We didn't know about the entertainment complex being built in Bromley South, which will provide more entertainment - a huge cinema and more restaurants. Having now visited lots of other areas in and around London, we also now appreciate how much green space there is in the Borough. That’s something we really hadn’t appreciated before.
Sum up Bromley in one sentence?
A vibrant and diverse place to live, ideally situated with a lot of potential.
What is your top tip for anyone looking to move in the near future?
Choose an area you love and then choose a great local estate agent to help you get ahead of the game. We adore our house and it's made leaving the sunshine and surf of Sydney worth it – without jdm we would never have found it.
