New developments in Chislehurst

5th February, 2020

  1. Chislehurst Library Redevelopment proposals

As you may be aware, there are development plans for a new Chislehurst Library. On behalf of the London Borough of Bromley, Cushman & Wakefield are currently seeking subject to planning proposals for the site, to include a new library facility to be handed back to the Council, alongside a mixed use scheme (food store or other retail use; residential accommodation; leisure & community uses).  Interested parties are being asked to submit their expressions of interest by Thursday, 20th February after which the Council will choose its development partner and move to stage 2.  Access to the brochure is here.

The Library is a key community asset and the Chislehurst Town Team (CTT) is anxious that residents be kept fully informed throughout the process and that their views should be heard.  With this in mind we have set up a dedicated Facebook Group – Chislehurst Library redevelopment consultation https://www.facebook.com/groups/3050577798300478/- which we would welcome you joining.   Although set up only a few days ago,  this already has over 630 members and created some interesting discussions.

We are also undertaking a short initial survey https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/T2KF372 .  Please do complete it by 18th February and have your say.  We shall be collating the comments on Facebook and the survey feedback and sharing it with Bromley Council.

We are already engaged in ongoing dialogue with our ward councillors. At the Town Team’s recent meeting with Cllr Suraj Sharma we expressed a number of concerns including

  • why the site needs to be redeveloped;
  • the Council’s intentions as to use class;
  • protection of the Conservation area;
  • whether, should a sale be agreed, any surplus would go to central funds, rather than being recommitted for investment in Chislehurst.
  • loss of facilities and activities during the redevelopment (and indeed beyond) as the temporary library site proposed is significantly smaller.

The response from Cllr Sharma is here

  1. CCTV in Chislehurst

Chislehurst Ward Councillors and the Chislehurst Town Team are consulting with users of the High St, Royal Parade and Belmont Parade to get their views on the possible installation of CCTV cameras in these areas. We would be grateful if you could complete this very short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NDVTLL2 by 19th February.
